VW first offered the Type 1 IRS transmission with CV (constant velocity) Joints in 1968 with the Auto Stick Transmission in the VW Beetle. In 1969, the IRS suspension and the CV jointed axles were standard on all VW models. The CV Joint is a marvel of engineering, allowing for movement in all three planes of while still twisting and transmitting power from the transmission to the wheel.
The Type 1 CV joint has a 90mm outer diameter body and the center race has a 26.95mm, 33 splined center. The CV joint is limited in angle to about 14 degrees of drive angle so it is only typically used on dune buggys and baja bugs that do not have overly modified rear suspension. We offer German and aftermarket CV joints as well as the boots and CV grease to keep them operating smoothly.
Complete half-shafts with CVs, boots and the axle with grease are available and ready to bolt on. We have replacement Type 1 stub axles, cv joint bolts, axle spacers bearings and the seals to get your drivetrain back in shape. Whether you are replacing broken or missing drivetrain and axle parts or are building a sand rail from scratch, you've come to the right place.
