The VW Headlight Switch installs into the dash with a 14mm dash nut escutcheon and has a 5mm threaded post for a knob (sold separately, available above). The headlight knob has 3 positions (off / parking-running lights / headlights-running lights) as well as a rheostat control (twist the knob at the second or third position) to dim or brighten the dash lights. The headlight switch fits 1968 through 1970 Beetles, 1968 through 1970 Karmann Ghias and 1968 through 1970 Type 3s.

Replacing the Headlight Switch (and most all the VW Switches) is very simple. The headlight terminals are numbered, their designations are:
30 - Battery Power from the Main Wiring Harness
- Battery Power to the Ignition Switch
- Battery Power to the Fuse Box
56 - Power to the Floor Dimmer Switch or Headlight Relay
57 - Not Used - (powered on at first position)
58 - Power to the Running Light Terminal on the Fuse Box
58b - Power to the Dash Bulbs
VW Factory Color Coding:
30 - Red
56 - White or White w/Black Stripe
58 - Grey
58b - White w/Red Stripe
