34 PICT VW Carburetor from EMPI

  • One of the best quality replacement "Dual Port" Carburetors available
  • 70 Air Jet - 127.5 Main Jet - .55 Idle Jet
  • Extra 60 Idle & 130 Jets Included for fuels with ethanol additives
  • 12 Volt Choke & Idle Solenoid
  • Adjustable Float

The EMPI 98-1289-B 34 PICT carburetor is designed for dual port, 1600cc based engines and to meet the original VW specs. This carb looks and functions just like the unit from the factory, and is proving to be a great choice for stock engine applications. It comes installed with a 12 volt choke and 12 volt idle solenoid (cut-off) valve. The 12v choke can be used on 6 volt systems but will take longer to warm up. You must remove the cut off solenoid and plug the part on the side of the carburetor housing if running a 6 volt electrical system. The carburetor comes with one base gasket for installing the new unit onto the intake manifold.

Our Expert's Take:

We've sold thousands of these carburetors and have had great success with them. They are very tunable and out of the box, they are pretty much spot on and ready to go. But, for our own stock dual port 1600cc engines, we run our JBugs brand 34-PICT3 caburetor, P/N 113129031KJB. It's just as good, if not better, and it costs less money. We recommend running a stock vacuum advance or SVDA distributor to alleviate off idle hesitation.

We strongly recommend you check out the tech tips tab above for more information on troubleshooting your old carburetor before purchasing a new one.

NOTE: WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RETURNS ON INSTALLED CARBURETORS. PLEASE ATTEMPT TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS ENUMERATED IN THE TECH TIPS SECTION AND REVIEW OUR RETURNS POLICY BEFORE PURCHASING.

Can not be used with Autostick models Our carburetors are set up to run gasoline, not a blended gasoline/ethanol mix that is common in some areas. If your local fuel has 10% or more ethanol content (not, E85) or you find that the carburetor is running lean, you can swap out the standard jets for the larger option.

Spend a little time! Save a lot of money!

Make sure to troubleshoot your Carburetor before purchasing a new one.

Our Carburetors are factory bench tested, adjusted, and ready to install. They are guaranteed to work properly right out of the box, free of all manufacturing defects. If your engine is currently not running well and continues to run poorly after a new carburetor has been installed, the problem is either not the carb, or there may be additional problems hindering performance. We highly recommend you check, diagnose and exhaust every other possibility before purchasing a new carburetor, because they will not be refunded once installed. The problems are far less expensive than the cost of a new carburetor!

Check for intake leaks at the carburetor base gasket, at the intake manifold boots and end castings (for dual port manifolds), at the
cylinder head, and that the manifold itself is not cracked or pin-holed.

Make sure that the ignition timing is correct and your spark plugs, plugs wires, points, condenser, cap and rotor are in good condition.

Make sure that the valves are adjusted properly.

Check that your fuel pressure is proper. Often times new fuel pumps put out more pressure than carburetors can use.

MOST IMPORTANTLY make sure your current carburetor is adjusted properly. If you are not familiar with setting a carburetor take the car to a certified mechanic that is familiar with VWs.
