We highly recommend replacing the seat pads in your Classic Volkswagen at the same time as installing your new VW Seat Upholstery.
Our top quality VW Seat Pads are made with pre-formed injection molded high-density foam rubber designed to fill out your seat properly, giving you a proper fit that will last for years. We recommend purchasing burlap or sisel pads when installing new seat foam. A layer of burlap or sisel will protect your new foam pads from the springs eating into them over time.

Stock VW Beetle Seat Styles:
1954-1964 VW Beetle Seat Upholstery piping runs from left side to right side. There are two slightly different frames for the 1954-1964 seat upholstery. The earlier model seat frame was used by VW in 1954 and 1955. 1956 through 1964 models use the later style seat frame. The upholstery is very similar and can be interchanged but ideally you want to verify which seat frame you have.
1954-1964 VW Beetle Seat Backrest Frames have a bottom bar with a slit across its length. Seat upholstery reinforcement strip tucks in to this slit.
1954-1967 VW Beetle Low-Back Seat Frames look very similar, share the same seat rails, and are often switched between cars when replacement seat frames are needed. The Seat Upholstery, however, installs differently depending on seat frame year. We recommend checking if your seat frames are original for your car before ordering VW Seat Upholstery.
1954-1970 VW Beetle Seat Tracks are the same so the front seats from any Beetle from 1954 to 1970 model can interchanged. Be sure to verify which seats your Beetle has, especially when ordering any custom upholstery which can not be returned.
1965-1967 VW Beetle Seat Upholstery piping runs from front to back of seat backrest. This creates a ??roll over? look on the seat with the face of the seat rolling over to the back.
1965-1967 VW Beetle Seat Backrest Frames have a bar with spikes that puncture through upholstery. Spikes are then bent over upholstery edges once the front and rear upholstery flaps are stretched into place. 1967 Beetles are technically a one year only seat with a backrest release knob on the outer edge of the backrest.
1954-1967 VW Beetle Low-Back Seat Frames look very similar, share the same seat rails, and are often switched between cars when replacement seat frames are needed. The Seat Upholstery, however, installs differently depending on seat frame year. We recommend checking if your seat frames are original for your car before ordering VW Seat Upholstery.

1968-1969 VW Beetle Seats have a 10 3/4" wide headrest.
1970-1972 VW Beetle Seat Upholstery is roughly 7" across the top edge of the headrest.
1970-1972 VW Beetle Seat Backrest Frames have a bar with spikes that puncture through upholstery. Spikes are then bent over upholstery edges once the front and rear upholstery flaps are stretched into place. The 1970 seat is a one year only seat because of the seat rails. 1971 and 1972 seats are identical.

1977-1979 VW Beetle Seat Upholstery has a separate headrest that sits on metal posts. The headrest cover is not included with seat upholstery kits. The headrest cover must be ordered separately.
1977-79 VW Beetle Seat Backrest Frames have a bar with spikes that puncture through upholstery. Spikes are then bent over upholstery edges once the front and rear upholstery flaps are stretched into place. The seat frame also has mounting posts for the separate headrest.

1977-79 VW Beetle High-Back Seat Frames have a removable headrest. If you want the vintage look of a lowback seat, just remove the headrests. This is easiest when replacing the upholstery as the new upholstery does not have holes for the headrest posts cut.

TMI uses Extruded Welt for our Upholstery. That means the color is solid all the way through so even if scuffed it is still the same color. The competition uses wrapped cord; basically a string or white plastic filament with upholstery wrapped around it. If nicked, it shows the white string or plastic inside.
Vinyl Weight; TMI, like Ford, uses heavier vinyl, 30 or 32 oz. as opposed to the 24 to 28 oz. (sometimes 30 oz.) vinyl that the competition uses. TMI Vinyl will last as long the original.
Polyester Backed Vinyl; TMI has Superior Cross-Linked Polyester Backed Vinyl made exclusively for us rather than the low cost "Off-The-Shelf" cotton backed vinyl that the competition uses. Color Correct; both TMI and the competition claim accuracy, however, TMI uses Original Material sources as benchmarks to maintain our color and continues Quality Control checks with every production run.
