The 1959 VW Karmann Ghia transmissions were paired with a swing axle, whereas later Beetles used independent rear suspension (IRS). A simple way to tell the difference between swing axle & IRS transmissions is to look at the axle boots. Swing axle transmission have the axle boot positioned only at the transmission. IRS transmissions have the axle boots positioned at the wheel and transmission. No matter what transmission style in your VW, we carry everything you need.1959 VW Karmann Ghia Clutch Components
JBugs has a complete selection of Clutches and Components to fit a 1959 VW Karmann Ghia. Rebuilding is made simple with quality German clutch discs, bearings, and pressure plates.Up until 1966, VWs had a 6 Volt, 180mm Clutch and Flywheel. If your engine has been swapped for a later model engine you may have a 12 Volt, 200mm Clutch and Flywheel. Keep in mind having a 12 Volt system does not determine that your VW has a 12 Volt Clutch. Changing to a 12 Volt system and keeping the 6 Volt Flywheel, Clutch, and Starter is common practice on earlier engines. Be certain to measure your Clutch Disc to determine which components are needed!
