Originally named "European Motor Products Inc.", EMPI has been an industry leader for over 45 years. Joe Vittone started EMPI in the late 1950's when demand for high-performance american muscle cars was on the rise. Joe co-owned a VW dealership at the time, and he knew many people complained that VW's were too slow. Joe realized there was a demand for quality aftermarket VW parts, and that the humble aircooled VW still had plenty of potential. He introduced engine performance kits, anti-roll bars, and performance cylinder heads to the VW market when Volkswagen itself had little to offer.

EMPI spent much time & money developing and testing new products which were proven in races, on the track, and on the strip. EMPI's parts broke many records, and made cars like the "Inch Pincher" famous throughtout the 60's and 70's. Over the decades Empi's catalouge has grown to include hundreds of Classic VW parts and accessories, Off-Road products for VW-chassis based vehicles, and performance race-spec products. EMPI has changed ownership since then multiple times, but EMPI stays true to their roots and continues to offer performance parts for both on and off-road VW use.
