The biggest, most powerful engine in the desert is pretty much worthless without fuel! We offer mechanical and electrical fuel pumps to ensure your carburetors get the gas the need. Along with the pumps we have a wide range of hoses, filters and clamps so you can plumb your dune buggy fuel system.
Mechanical fuel pumps mount to the engine case and are powered by the engine. A small push rod is moved up and down by the distributor drive gear. The pushrod operates the fuel pump lever moving the diaphragm inside the pump up and down. Fuel enters the top line of the fuel pump and exits the bottom.
Electric fuel pumps are powered by your electrical system and are mounted inline between the gas tank and the carburetor. We offer fuel pressure regulators, fittings, hoses, clamps and filters to make installing your new fuel pump a breeze.
Mechanical fuel pumps are offered in two styles, the generator style or the alternator style. Externally the pumps can look the same. The major difference is on the bottom, a generator uses a longer drive rod and has a taller base than the alternator style pump. If you have a mechanical fuel pump and aren't sure of the difference, look at the bottom actuating lever. If it is recessed inside the base it is a generator style. If the lever is flush with or sticking out the bottom, it is an alternator style. The two pumps use different length drive rods. Make sure to use the appropriate drive rod or you can damage your dune buggy engine!
Electric fuel pumps can be used as a back up to your mechanical fuel pump or as a primary pump for your dune buggy. Electric fuel pumps must be mounted in line with the fuel system and we recommend that the pumps be gravity fed with a good supply of fuel free flowing to the pump. Your electric fuel pump will last longer when it is pushing fuel instead of pulling it. Most electric fuel pumps will require a pressure regulator to prevent over filling your carburetor. Over supplying the carburetor with fuel can damage the float, needle and cause engine flooding.
We offer stainless steel braided and German cloth braided fuel hose in various sizes and lengths that should be suitable for any dune buggy. Make sure that your dune buggy gets a clean supply of gas with a fuel filter and make sure that the fuel hoses stay put with hose clamps.
