When VW switched the Type 1 models to CV (constant velocity) Joints in 1968 they also introduced them on the Type 2. The IRS suspension and the CV jointed axles were standard on all VW Bus models from that point forward. The CV Joint is a wonderful piece of automotive engineering which allows movement in all three planes and can still twist and transmit power from the transmission to the wheels.
The Type 2 CV joint has a 100mm outer diameter body and the center race has a 26.95mm, 33 splined center. The CV joint is limited in angle to about 17 degrees of drive angle and can be used on dune buggys and baja bugs mildly lifted rear suspension. 3x3 trailing arms are about the limit of length and width for a Type 2 CV. We offer German as well as aftermarket CV joints, boots and CV grease to keep them spinning smoothly.
Complete axle-shafts with CVs, boots and the axle with grease are ready to bolt on. We have conversion Type 1 stub axles which allow you to run the larger CV joint on your dune buggy. CV joint bolts, axle spacers bearings and seals are all offered to get your drivetrain back in shape. German made as well as aftermarket CV joint boots keep the elements out and the CV joint grease in.
It doesn't matter if you're running stock VW trailing arms or 3x3 trailing arms and bigger, axles are available in various lengths to connect your transmission to the stub axles and clips to hold them all together.
Stub axles are mounted in the trailing arm and connect to the CV joint and mount to your dune buggy drum or rotors.
High performance grease that meets factory fill requirements set by most all CV Joint Manufacturers. The EP-2 additive gives added protection against seizing under extreme pressure.
