And so the JOURNEY begins…..It was 1975, I was just out of High School and was visiting a local junk yard in Ohio looking for VW Bug parts. On a scrap pile was a 1967 Volkswagen beetle with a sunroof and pop out rear windows. The front end was totally smashed, and the car was headed to the crusher. When I asked the attendant if he would sell it, he replied sure $100 bucks with a title. Not knowing what was next, I bought it and had it towed to my parents' house. Over the next few years, the car was separated from the body and every part was taken off and put in boxes and plastic bags. Then, over the next 40+ years, it was moved from house to barn to garage to body shop to outside to our new home and finally to my work garage… what a journey. As it was sitting for all these years, came marriage, 2 boys a dog and a full medical career thru to retirement. So, wha Do I get rid of it, or do I restore it? Thanks to Stephanie my wife and Tim and Sean my sons, they said, finish the Journey.

So, over the next 4 years the car was a complete body-off build bringing it to its original condition like brand new. Every nut, screw, washer, and bolt has been replaced with stainless steel hardware. Every rubber grommet, seal and gasket have been upgraded with NOS or similar. A completely new wiring harness, as well as front and rear disc brakes, including stainless steel brake lines were added. The engine was rebuilt back to its original specs, and many of the original parts were powder coated upon re assembly. Color is cool grey Khaki with a caramel brown interior. And so when one asked me what should I name her?? Obviously JOURNEY!
