Removing stock style VW Hubcaps is a breeze, with the right tools. Sure, a screwdriver can be used to pry the cap off, but it could damage your wheels and their paint, chrome or polished finish. Hub cap clips, pullers or whatever you want to call them insert into the two smalls holes in the edge of the hubcap and then you can use a strong finger, or a tire lever to easily pop off the stock style hubcap.
Here's a little quick tip on using a hubcap puller—hubcap clip, like so. Your stock spare tire rod, lever bar, whatever the heck—go through the hook, brace it against the tire, and that's how you use a hubcap clip. If you've got stout fingers, you can pull them off as well, but using the bar makes it a lot easier. So keep that in your glove box if you have stock-style hubcaps.
