VW Front Left Spindle Nut - Lock Nut Style

Volkswagen originally used two lock nuts with a locking plate between them to secure the front drums to the spindle. This lock nut is left hand threaded 18x1.5mm, so the counter-clockwise rotation of the left wheel when the vehicle is moving does not loosen the nut. Whenever you remove the spindle lock nuts, remember to consult your manual or a trustworthy source for the procedure for setting free play. Allowing too much free play can cause excess load on the bearings, which will make them fail much quicker, and cause the wheel to wobble on its axis.
