The VW Floor Dimmer Switch operates the high and low beams, toggling back and forth between the two when the headlights are on. The floor dimmer switch has 3 terminals; power in, high beam output and low beam output and is compatible with 6 or 12 volt systems. The dimmer switch fits 1954 through 1965 Beetles, 1956 through 1965 Karmann Ghias and 1955 through 1965 Type 2 Bus models.

Replacing the Floor Dimmer Switch (and most all the VW Switches) is very simple. The switch terminals are numbered, their designations are:

56 - Power to the Floor Dimmer Switch
56a - Power to High Beams
56b - Power to Low Beams

VW Factory Color Coding:
56 - White or White w/Black Stripe
56a - White
56b - Yellow
