From October 1952 to March 1953, Volkswagen transitioned from a split rear window to the oval rear window body style. Beetles produced during this time were known as "Zwitters" because the body came from the VW factory cut out for the larger oval window, but maintained the separated, or split glass design. It was not until March 1953 that VW fully adopted the oval window, eliminating the split glass look completely. Zwitter Beetles are fairly rare, as they were only produced for roughly six months. This trim does not fit a true split window, which was substantially smaller and had a slightly different shape.
