Product Description
Our VW Gas Tank fits fuel injected 1975 to 1976 Super Beetles and 1975 through 1979 Super Beetle Convertibles. The tank accepts the stock sending unit and has the stock filler port, filler vent and tank vent on the right side and two vents at the upper left side. On the bottom of the tank there are two ports, one for the outlet to the fuel pump, the other is for the return line from the pressure regulator. The fuel filler hose, replacement sending unit and seal and the gas tank to body seal can be added to the tank by selecting the Installation Kit above.
Fuel Tanks should be thoroughly cleaned before installation. Some tanks are lined with cosmoline which can be cleaned out with MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone), Acetone or a similar solvent. Even if the tank is not lined, it is still important to clean out the tank. Manufacturing debris can clog your fuel lines, carburetor or fuel system!
We occasionally see minor clearance issues with our replacement tanks at the fuel tank drain plug. In our experience the cause is past front end collision damage to the car. A large diameter socket can be used to open up the access hole at the bottom of the fuel tank well in the body. If you don't ever plan on removing the drain plug, the tank can be bolted in place with no issues and even then, unthreading the plug will still be possible as it will open up the hole as it is being unthreaded.
