The Rear Left Bumper Shock Bracket connects the bumper to the mounts at the left rear inner fender well. The "energy absorbing" bumper bracket fits 1975 through 1976 (to VIN 1162006147) Standard Beetles and 1974 through 1979 Super Beetles. The bracket passes through the diamond shaped hole on the rear left fender to meet the bumper mount on the body.

What does to VIN 1162006147 Standard Beetles mean?

VW swapped back and forth between 1975 and 1976 on which bumper bracket they wanted to use on the Standard Beetle. In 1975 they used the same rear bracket as the Super Beetle, but then later in 1976 they went back to the Standard Beetle version. The only difference between the two is that this style bracket has welded nuts attached to the bracket at the mounting holes. The Standard Beetle style bracket does not.

Previous accidents and body work can cause poor fitment of new bumpers and other sheet metal items. It is very important to test fit the bracket before painting it. This will allow any necessary body work to either the body or the fender to be done BEFORE painting.

NOTE: All body metal parts are sent with a black, sprayed, rust inhibitor. This is NOT paint or a primer. It must be removed prior to applying primer to the sheet metal.

This includes bumper brackets, fenders, floor pans, aprons, deck lids ETC. Because this material is not a primer, it is not unusual for scratches to be found in this material. This does not affect the sheet metal as this material MUST BE REMOVED, thus also removing any scratches in the process. Of course dents would be considered excessive. All sheet metal is carefully inspected prior to shipping for dents. Any sheet metal that is received dented must be presented to the shipping carrier for a damage claim, REGARDLESS OF THE CONDITION OF THE BOX.
