The Engle FK-47 is a newer VW Cam for serious engines. It is designed for 1.4-1.5 rockers, and it's specs are .308" Cam Lift, .587" Valve Lift (1.4 Rockers) 308 degrees of advertised duration, and 278 degrees of duration at .050", on a 108 Lobe Center. This is one of Engle's biggest and most aggressive cam grinds and as such needs lots of compression to work. 10:1 is a start along with a 1 3/4+ exhaust, large carburetors, and more. The power band screams, starting at 4000 and wringing out at 8000RPM. Idle will be very rough under 1200-1500rpm and make sure that head flow and valve lifts are suited to the cam. There is no point in opening the valve over .575" if the ports stop flowing at .500". Chevy springs are required due to the high revving nature.

Engle FK Series Camshafts are designed for use with 1.4 or 1.5 rockers.

Setting proper valve train geometry is crucial when using high ratio rockers. FK series cams take advantage of the increase in lift that comes with higher ratio rockers so they are a lot easier on the rest of the valve train. Engle’s FK cams are perfect for mild to high performance street and full race engines and all FK series camshafts are clearanced for stroker crankshafts.

Installation Notes:

All Type 1 performance cams are 3 Bolt, "early style" or "flat cams" and fit Type 1,2 & 3, 1200cc(40hp) to 1600cc based engines. The cam requires a separately sold, bolt on cam gear and must be used with a "flat cam" style oil pump. You can add the gear with the option above, or check out the links below:

New lifters should be installed whenever a new cam is being used. Never reuse old lifters with a new cam! Here are a few of options to consider:

JBugs ,along with most engine builders, racers and auto enthusiasts, recommends using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines!
