This Chrome 36 Horse Doghouse Style VW Fan Shroud with Ducts features 9 internal air directional baffles. With an Air-Cooled Volkswagen Engine these parts are very important. In a "Doghouse Style" Shroud, the Oil Cooler sits behind the shroud and is offset from the fan in it's own compartment, the "doghouse". The fan pulls in air while the shroud creates a channeling effect to disperse it towards the oil cooler, cylinder heads, pistons & cylinders. The air ducts are in place for those that plan on keeping the original heater boxes and heating system.
Doghouse Fan Shrouds use a wider, 36mm fan (part number 113119031B) to push more air through the shroud than earlier models. Make sure to use the appropriate sized fan to maximize the cooling benefits of the doghouse shroud.

NOTE: 36 Horse Power refers to the style and shape of the fan shroud. This fan shroud is made for 1300-1600cc Type 1 based aircooled engines. As it is an aftermarket made piece it will not fit as well as original tin. No aftermarket tin will, period. If you want a factory fit, use the original factory pieces.

Our Expert's Take:

When it comes to engine tin, we always prefer original VW tin to aftermarket tin. For our 1971 Super Beetle restoration, we had our pick of the warehouse for the most part, and we used all original engine tin. Sometimes getting ahold of original pieces isn't feasible so there is a place for aftermarket engine tin. Aftermarket tin does not fit as well as original tin, period. Trimming, clearancing and occasionally drilling may be required to get the engine tin components to mount to the engine and other engine tin pieces. With work, the tin can be made to fit and be effective, but do not expect an OEM fit.

Chrome Maintenance and What to Expect:

Chrome plating is an electro-plating process that is highly regulated due to the environmental impacts of the chemicals, metals, and the exhaust gasses released during the process.

We highly recommend maintaining any chrome on your vehicle by applying a car wax or detailing spray on a regular basis

Here are some additional tips:

Hubcaps - Spray paint the inside with paint or rust inhibitor, wax chrome finish regularly
Bumpers - Spray paint the inside with paint or rust inhibitor, wax chrome finish regularly
Exterior Mirrors - Lightly wax chrome finish regularly
Exterior Chrome Trim - Lightly wax chrome finish regularly

If you properly maintain the chrome and keep your car stored in a dry, non-salty-air environment, the chrome will last.

Check what fan shroud you need before you buy. There's a good chance the parts which originally came on your vehicle have been swapped in the last 50 years.
