These Redline Lumtronix 7" H4 headlight assemblies feature a color-changing LED halo ring that can be wired to a key-hot wire, a separate switch, or the running light circuit, and can also be controlled by an infrared remote control. The LED turn signal can be used to eliminate the stock turn signal for a more custom look. Each assembly includes a removable halogen H4 bulb rated at 55 watts low beam and 60 watts high beam. Requires a 12-volt system. Sold as a pair.

What is the difference between H4 and Sealed BeamHeadlights?

Sealed Beam headlights are the original equipment on most classic air-cooled VWs — the lens, reflector, and bulb are all one fused unit, meaning if the bulb burns out, you replace the entire assembly. They're period-correct and simple, but produce a relatively dim, yellowish light by modern standards, which is a real safety concern on dark roads.

H4 headlights use a separate replaceable halogen bulb within a dedicated reflector housing, producing significantly brighter, whiter light that dramatically improves nighttime visibility and safety — one of the biggest practical upgrades you can make on a daily-driven classic. The trade-off is that they are not strictly factory-correct for concours/show judging, and the increased electrical draw can stress aging wiring, so it's wise to ensure your wiring harness and grounds are in good shape or use a relay harness.

In short, if safety and driving usability are priorities, H4 is the clear winner; if originality and show-correctness matter most, sealed beam is the way to go.
