These small studs install on the bottom of the engine case and work with the cap nuts to hold the oil sump plate (part #113115181A) in place.
The stud is 23mm long and has a 6x1.00mm thread.
The sump plate studs are very commonly stripped when changing the oil so having a few replacements handy is a good idea!
They're used on all Type 1 and 3 VW engines.
These nuts fit all 1954 to 1977 Standard Beetles, 1971 to 1979 Super Beetles, 1956 to 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1955 to 1971 Type 2s (Bus, Single Cab, Double Cab), 1962 to 1973 Type 3s (Notchback, Squareback, Fastback), and 1974 to 1974 Things.
Sold individually, 6 required to do one engine.
Note: Be aware that oil sump plate cap nuts only require 5 ft/lbs of torque to hold the sump plate in place, according to VW.
Do not attempt to overtighten them.
They will strip, or strip the stud from the case.
If you do have stripped holes in the engine case, you can drill out the stripped hole in the case and install a special stepped stud.
See part #N144521.
