I have been "jonesing" for an old car for a long time, and just never got around to pulling the trigger. I was always a classic V8 muscle car guy had some back in the day and never even took much of a look at VWs.
I turned 60 years of age this past April and I figured if I don't get a car soon I may as well forget about it. I cannot remember how but a cool Beetle came on the scene and it grabbed my interest. I knew some folks that owned them back when, and remember how they loved them and I remember how fun and deferent they were to ride in and drive.
Not knowing much about them I started to research and became hooked! The whole air cooled simplicity and primitive back to basics just grabbed me. This is what I wanted. The amount of resources and the community surrounding them was incredible.
This 1965 Beetle originally a CA. car was brought to Schwenksville, PA. by the original owner. John -The second owner purchased it there in 1992 and eventually move it to Delaware state. I purchased it in July 2025 and moved it back to Perkasie, PA about 8 mi. from where John bought it.
John owned it for 33 yrs. and did the majority of the work but never drove it much. He advertised it as "needing hands on work" and someone to complete what he started, which is just what I wanted. A bit of a project but not too big.
My son and I trailered it home and we got started on getting the repairs made to get it road worthy and dependable. It is still 6 volt with ignition points.
John and I stay in touch. I give him updates on the latest repairs and upgrades. and I have even had it to a couple shows this year where it is very well received.
