This is our 1971 Super Beetle with 79,000 original miles since purchase in '71.

No major modifications except replaced radio and installed white wall tires and new rims. We replaced seat covers with original material/color and side panels as well. It was repainted to original color in 2018.

The engine caught fire while driving shortly after repaint job. The gas line separated from the carburetor. Luckily I was able to extinguish with only damage to engine compartment, engine, and paint on hatch. We cleaned and reworked engine completely, and replaced all wiring. We repainted the rear of car and engine compartment. Now we have installed an automatic fire extinguishing system in engine compartment just in case! Recently replaced generator thanks to help from the staff of Jbugs!

The best use of the Bug was having our two sons learn how to drive with standard stick transmission. That included how to keep car from rolling backwards when sitting on steep incline with another car directly in back of them. P.S. My wife was the driving instructor as she fears nothing and had driven bugs in the sleet and snow of Ohio since she was 15.

Our Super Beetle is nicknamed "Gator Bug" in honor of that wonderful U of Florida. Go Gators!!
