1964 VW Bug

Danielle Pense

Since I was in elementary school I’ve always wanted to own a VW Bug and have my dad help me fix it up. Last December I was finally fortunate enough to find and buy my dream car, Betsy. My parents owned a 1962 VW Bug when they first got married back in the day but at the time ended up selling it for financial reasons. Deep down I always knew I wanted to keep the family tradition going of owning a VW Bug.

My dad and I had looked for 6-7 years on different auto websites, craiglist, car shows, etc. for the right VW Bug for me, but I always came up empty. My neighbors were the ones that told me about their friend trying to sell Betsy. So, I called the seller up and asked if my dad and I could come and take a look at her and see if I’d be interested in buying her. It was love at first sight! I bought Betsy right then and there. With tears in my eyes, I knew she was the VW Bug I had been waiting for!

My family has been helping me clean her up and restore her ever since. I am especially thankful for the time I now get to spend learning from my dad and fixing Betsy up since his health has taken a turn for the worse. I cherish it. Thanks to JBugs I’ve been able to get Betsy new brakes, a new carburetor, and much more to keep her in excellent shape.

There is truly something special and unique about VWs that will always bring me happiness and put a smile on my face.
