1965 VW Beetle

James Liguori

I've owned my 1965, 40HP, 6 volt Panama Beige Beetle for over 4 years now. I originally purchased the car at an auction, sight unseen, with no knowledge of its past. To my amazement, it turned out I had actually bought myself an incredible clean, unmolested, rust free, completely original car. From the dry, dull, chalky paint to the nicked up hubcaps, I haven’t found even a single wavy washer that isn’t original and in great shape.

This little time capsule, with 28,000 miles, started its life as a summer home car in Harbor Springs, Michigan. It lived there, getting used a handful of times each summer, until 1990. From there it spent some time in California, eventually settling its very pampered life into someone's car collection in Arizona. And now, this gem proudly sits in my garage in western PA.

I intend to continue to give it a good life, but I also intend to drive it as much as I can. She is one beautiful car, and as far as I’m concerned she is just getting broken in.
