1969 VW Baja Bug

Jeff Vick

My dad and I restored this car together (most of the work was done by Dad, but I helped where I could). As a kid, I grew up with VWs and going to car shows with Dad. I loved VWs back then and now at 37, I finally had a chance to restore a VW of my own.

We found this car in spring of 2023 in someone's basement. The Bug was totally apart, so we boxed it all up and hauled it home. It was fairly well preserved, but we did have to fix some rust and some damage from a previous accident. We replaced floor pans, driver heater channel, and the rear parcel shelf.

I always loved the baja look, so we chopped the ends off and made our own rendition of a Baja Bug. Almost all of the parts we used came from JBugs. The end result is way better than I ever imagined it could be, and JBugs certainly played a big part in making that happen.
