The VW 2 prong brake light switch threads into the master cylinder and operates the brake lights. It is a simple open-close circuit switch with power in and power out of the 2 terminals. The switch is compatible with 6 or 12 volt systems. The brake light switch fits 1954 through 1967 Beetles, 1956 through 1967 Karmann Ghias and 1955 through 1967 Type 2 Bus models, 1962 through 1967 Type 3s, some 1980 through 1991 Vanagons and 1986 through 1991 Syncros. The 2 prong switch is also used on some 1968 and 1969 models that still have the original, 3 brake light switch equipped master cylinders.
