1973-1974 VW Thing Front Suspension Kit

If your VW front end seems to wander around a bit or you dread every pothole and speed bump you come across, it might be time to rebuild your front end. We've put together a kit for 1973 through 1974 VW Thing Ball Joint Front Ends. The kit includes upper and lower ball joints, oil-filled shock absorbers, and trailing arm seals. You can add the often rust in place camber adjusters (along with washers) and can make your selection for multiple shock options. Select from JBugs or other manufacturers oil filled shocks for a softer, stock like ride or upgrade to KYB, Bilstein or KONI adjustable gas shocks, or coil-over shocks.

Ball Joints:

1973 and 1974 VW Things have a ball joint front end. Ball Joints must be pressed in (and out) of the trailing arms. The upper ball joint attaches to the spindle through an eccentric cam adjuster. We do sell the adjusters separately if yours are stuck in place or have been lost or mistakenly discarded. VW Thing Ball Joints differ slightly from Beetle front ends as both the ball joints point down unlike the Beetle where they point towards each other.

Shock Absorbers:

Oil-filled shock absorbers are included in our suspension kit and are what VW originally installed. Our JBugs oil-filled shocks are as good as anything on the market. Gas shocks will provide a slightly stiffer ride and are what most vehicles today have. We offer KYB Excel-G and Gas-a-Just shocks, as well as Bilstein nitrogen-charged shocks, for stock-height applications. Coil Over shocks will add a bit of lift for sagging front ends.
