The tubular upper brackets used on the VW Beetle support the weight of the over-rider bars on the front bumper and lock them in position. This bracket fits all 1953 to 1967 Standard Beetle models. The bracket goes through the apron and mounts in the same place as the lower brackets, which hold the bumper itself. Without upper bumper brackets, the bumper will sag, regardless of how tightly the lower brackets are bolted to the body. This bracket works for both the left and right side, it is sold individually, and two are needed per car.
Test fit the bracket and bumper before painting!
Previous accidents and body work can cause poor fitment of new bumpers and other sheet metal items. It is very important to test fit the bracket before painting it. This will allow any necessary body work to either the body or the fender to be done BEFORE painting. NOTE: All body metal parts are sent with a black, sprayed, rust inhibitor. This is NOT paint or a primer. It must be removed prior to applying primer to the sheet metal.
This includes bumper brackets, fenders, floor pans, aprons, deck lids ETC. Because this material is not a primer, it is not unusual for scratches to be found in this material. This does not affect the sheet metal as this material MUST BE REMOVED, thus also removing any scratches in the process. Of course dents would be considered excessive. All sheet metal is carefully inspected prior to shipping for dents. Any sheet metal that is received dented must be presented to the shipping carrier for a damage claim, REGARDLESS OF THE CONDITION OF THE BOX.
