EMPI VW IRS Spring Plates - Adjustable - 24 11/16 Inch Bars

These EMPI adjustable IRS spring plates slide over the rear torsion bars and are held in place by the spring plate cover. The trailing arm bolts to the spring plate, connecting the rear axle, wheel and suspension to the torsion bar. The plates ride in rubber or urethane bushings to prevent metal on metal contact. They are not for any stock VW application, but can be used on 1973 through 1974 Things if an additional hole is drilled into the plates.

Note: The stock rubber bushing will not fit with the adjustable spring plates. They require 2 inch inside diameter inner bushings and 1 7/8 inch inside diameter outer bushings.

Installation Notes

Adjustable spring plates are thicker than original single spring plates, but thinner than models with dual spring plates. For models with single spring plates, washers (and possibly longer bolts) or EMPI spring plate spacers (P/N 00-9586-0) need to be installed between the torsion housing and the spring plate cap. For models with doubled spring plates, cutting or grinding down the spacers on the caps and using washers to set the depth will be required.

Note: Because of the additional plate and adjuster block, wheel fitment becomes much more important with adjustable spring plates. Wheel spacers may be needed to clear them.
