Engle 100 Cam for Classic VW Engines

The Engle W-100 cam pulls well up to about 5500 RPM, or up to 5700 if you swap to 1.25 rockers, dual springs and HD rocker shafts. A stock carburetor (with a rough idle), a single 2 barrel carb, or a pair of dual, single or dual barrel carbs can all be used with the W-100. The more air and fuel you let it control, the more power it will give you, to a certain point anyway!

To wrap it up, this is a good "do it all" cam for engines up to about the 1900cc mark. It can be used with stock heads but performance will increase as the ports and valve sizes increase. You can run this a replacement for a stock cam in stock engines or as a very streetable, performance cam in a 1776, 1835 or 1914. Whether using it with stock or 1.25 ratio rockers it provides good useable power in a wide range of engines.

All Type 1 performance cams are 3 Bolt, "early style" or "flat cams" and fit Type 1,2 & 3, 1200cc(40hp) to 1600cc based engines. The cam requires a separately sold, bolt on cam gear and must be used with a "flat cam" style oil pump.

This cam works great even with stock heads, but as head work is increased it's performance will too! Expect a power band of idle to 5500 RPMs You can get by with HD Single Valve springs and Bolt On Rocker Shafts. Use a compression ratio of 7.5-8.25:1. If you choose to use this cam with 1.25 rockers, you will extend the top end to 5200, but DUAL SPRINGS ARE REQUIRED.

Engle W Series Camshafts are designed for use with 1.1 rockers but can be used with 1.25 rockers.
Setting valve train geometry is crucial when using high ratio rockers. W series cams are great for small to medium displacement street, and mild performance engines with good mid-range performance.

JBugs (along with many other engine builders, racers and auto enthusiasts) recommends using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines!
