Fuel Tanks should be thoroughly cleaned before installation. Some tanks are lined with cosmoline which can be cleaned out with MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone), Acetone or a similar solvent. Even if the tank is not lined, it is still important to clean out the tank. Manufacturing debris can clog your fuel lines, carburetor or fuel system!
The VW Bus / Type 2 Gas Tank fits 1968-1973.5 is a stock replacement metal fuel tank that accepts the factory fuel sending unit, vent lines and
a late model Beetle fuel tank tap (linked here).
This tank fits standard 1968-73.5 Bus models (through chassis 2132138900) and
models with exhaust system heating. For models that do
not have the heating system, the additional vent lines must be capped off. The fitment is the same between the tanks otherwise.
Our high-quality reproduction fuel tanks look and fit just like the original German-made tanks and will last decades if properly maintained.
These tanks are not cheap reproductions, they are the best available on the market and of excellent quality. Don’t waste your time, money
and effort with a poor-fitting, thin-walled tank that you’ll have to replace before you know it. Do the job right the first time and don’t
worry about it for another 50 years!
Tank measures roughly 36" wide, 14" front to back, 10" tall when sitting on the ground measuring to the top.
