The VW Fuel Tank Sending Float installs in to the top opening of the fuel tank of 1968 through 1973 (VIN 2132138900) Type 2 Bus models. The sending unit has an electrical connection which sends a resisted ground signal to the fuel gauge to provide the reading. The attached black wire must be grounded out, a ring terminal around one of the sending unit mounting screws should be sufficient. Double check that the tank is grounded with a continuity tester to be certain as once the tank is in place in a Bus, access can be tight.
Do not over tighten the mounting screws as the plastic housings are susceptible to cracking.
Fuel tank sending units most often include a sending unit seal from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, on occasion they forget to include one. If that is the case, we will be happy to send out a replacement. If you absolutely must have the sending unit seal, add one to your cart along with the sending unit. We’ll be happy to credit you for the seal if you end up with two.
