The VW Bus center steering drag link (or center tie rod) has one fixed end and one adjustable end and is about 20" long. The steering drag link connects the pitman arm (or drop arm) on the steering box to the swing lever at the front beam. The adjustable end connects to the steering box and the fixed end connects to the steering lever. VW originally made the left tie rod and the end of the drag link adjustable so the front end could be aligned. The right tie rod was fixed at both ends from the factory but can be replaced with a left side tie rod along with a new drag link to ensure that all tie rods are in good shape.
