EMPI's Ball Joint, Disc Brake Drop Spindles are brand new units, not re-manufactured old cores! CNC machined to exact tolerances. These forged drop spindles feature 1/4" outwards offset so clearance is usually not an issue. The drop spindles are made for 4-lug VW (4x130) and 5-Lug Porsche (5x130) disc brake rotors. These spindles are the first step to a brake system upgrade while giving you the built-in 2 1/2" lower stance just by bolting them on. These drop spindles are made for use with stock shocks. The disc brake drop spindles will fit all Type 1 (Beetle and Karmann Ghia 1966 through 1977) Ball Joint Front Ends. For 1966, 1967 and early 1968 models, 1968.5 and later inner wheel seals, inner wheel bearings and outer tie rod ends must be used.

1966 thru May of 1968 vehicles need to install June of 1968 thru 1977 outer tie rod ends, inner wheel bearings and inner wheel seals.

The Drop Spindles have the original steering geometry so the ride and handling of the car is not negatively affected.

Drop Spindles are not compatible with Super Beetles!

145 SR 15 TIRES or shorter are RECOMMENDED WITH DROP SPINDLES.

135 SR 15 TIRES or shorter are RECOMMENDED IF ADJUSTABLE BEAM AND SPINDLES USED TOGETHER.

Drop Spindles require shorter (smaller diameter) tires to maintain standard drive-ability.

It might look like there is enough room to drop the front end of your VW 2.5" and clear the stock sized tire, and when it is parked, there absolutelyis. Take a drive in the car though, around a corner or over a speedbump, and you'll quickly discover that the stock size tire will rub. The heavier theload the more regularly the front tires will rub. Smaller tires are an absolute requirement with drop spindles. Stock tires will not clear, trust us.
