EMPI VW Push Rod Tube Protectors - Chrome - Pair

EMPI's chrome push rod tube protectors sit underneath the heads and shield the push rods from incoming debris. These protector plates are common in off road applications where you expect to encounter rocks and other hard objects. The shields can be used on all VWs equipped with the 1200cc/40HP to 1600cc Type 1 (Beetle, Super Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Early Bus, Thing) and 3 (Notchback, Squareback, Fastback) engine. They fit 1961 to 1977 Standard Beetle, 1971 to 1979 Super Beetle, 1961 to 1974 Karmann Ghia, 1960 to 1971 Type 2 Bus, 1962 to 1973 Type 3 (Notchback, Squareback, Fastback), and 1973 to 1974 Thing models. They are sold as a pair.

Please Note: To install these plates you must remove the exhaust system, as the holes at the two ends correspond to the exhaust ports and studs on the heads. The shield plate is fitted over the push rod tubes from the bottom and either end is sandwiched between the head and the exhaust manifold. Four exhaust gaskets are needed per head.
