EMPI's stock height shocks for Type 1 models with ball joint front end come painted bright white and are sold individually. This oil-filled shock is 14 1/2" long in the fully closed position and 18" at full open. The shock fits 1966 to 1979 Standard Beetle, 1965 to 1974 Karmann Ghia, and 1973 to 1974 Thing models (with ball joint front end). Stock height shocks also fit vehicles with drop spindles, but perform poorly with any more than a 2-3" drop.

California Prop 65 Warning:
Please Note:The information listed below is for stock, unmodified VW's manufactured for sale in the US. VW's are commonly modified and very often parts from another year VW may have been installed on your car. California Pacific JBugs is not responsible for any errors if your car has been modified in any way.
When installing a new shock absorber on the front of your VW, make sure that the old shock sleeve is removed. The bolt that the shock absorber bolts to IS NOT a shouldered bolt. The shaft of the bolt has roughly the same outer diameter of the threaded area. If the old shock sleeve is rusted in place, use a pair of vice grips to break it free and remove it.
