Bubble Top Aluminum Engine Case for Type 1, 2, and 3

The bubble top aluminum engine case is a universal fit for VW Type 1, 2, and 3 engines and is ideal for performance builds. It features mounting points for a rear cross bar and a Type 3 dipstick hole (which must be blocked off if not used). The case is clearanced for up to an 86mm crankshaft and is bored for 85.5mm pistons, making it compatible with a wide range of engine sizes.

This high-strength case includes a large-style oil pick-up tube, shuffle pins for the main bearing saddles, and 8mm case savers for the cylinder head studs. The bellhousing area behind cylinder #3 is reinforced for added durability. The raised roof and radius design improve crank clearance and overall rigidity. The case is tapped for a full flow oil system and includes plugs to seal off unused ports.

Compatible Engine Sizes

The all new engine case includes a large style oil pick up tube and is suitable for 1585, 1699, 1745, 1791, 1801, 1883, 1929, or 1975cc builds with 85.5mm pistons.

Aluminum engine cases are thicker than magnesium cases

Aluminum engine cases are cast in a different mold than magnesium for additional strength and so the case can accept larger internal components. Aluminum cases are thicker in some areas, and due to the size differences versus the magnesium cases, will require that some engine tin pieces, fan shrouds and often times even accessories, like deep oil sumps, will have to be modified, trimmed, or clearanced so that they can be installed.

Standard aluminum pulleys can not be used with aluminum engine cases

As aluminum cases are thicker in areas that magnesium cases aren't, like the crank pulley snout, standard aluminum pulleys can not be used with aluminum cases. Use a stock style steel pulley, a pulley with a steel hub, or if you want to use an aluminum pulley, install a "bolt-in" sand seal pulley. This will require the use of a longer crank pulley bolt as well.

Note - due to the "Bubble Top" design of the engine case, your fan shroud may have to be clearanced across the bottom edge to align with the top of the engine case.
