Kicker 1956-74 VW Karmann Ghia Stereo Kit

Our Kicker VW 1956-1974 Karmann Ghia or 1957-1074 Karmann Ghia Convertible Stereo Package includes the following:

Speakers

• Front Kick Panels: The best place to mount your front speakers for listening & sound quality is in front kick panels.


• Kicker CS - The Kicker CS speakers use a PEI dome tweeter and are the best option if you are not going to run an amplifier. However, like all speakers, the Kicker CS sound considerably better if you do power them with an amplifier instead of powering them directly off of your radio.
• Kicker KS - The Kicker KS speakers have silk dome tweeters an deliver rich, warm, balanced, and natural sound output. But, the KS speakers will need an amplifier to shine so you hear the difference that you are paying for. These are the same speakers we installed in our 1971 Super Beetle build.

There are no premade options for mounting Karmann Ghia rear speakers. If your rear deck has been cut for speakers that is one option. Another possibilty is to mount the panels in the interior rear quarter panels. Water doesn't run through the quarter window like it does through the door so this isn't a bad option and it prevents cutting of the original sheet metal rear deck. We don't like cutting original sheet metal!

Wiring Included

• 30 Feet of Speaker Wire Included: This should be enough speaker wire to run to the speakers in the front and the rear.


• Amp Wiring Kit (If you Select an Amplifier): We include an 8 AWG kit with the CX360.4, 47KEY2004 & 47KEY2004/47KEY5001 amps and a 4 AWG kit with the CX660.5 amplifier. The kits use 100% OFC copper wire and include 2 RCA cables when you select a 4 channel amp and 3 RCA cables with the 5 channel options. (Note, only USA740 radios have a subwoofer preout to make use of the third set of RCAs.)

Optionally, add an Amplifier

There is no comparison between running your speakers off of your head unit vs. running your speakers with an amplifier. It is a like red-lining a stock 36hp VW engine or putting around with a 2276cc motor. 50 watts from your radio is the peak power output while the amplifiers we offer put out 65 watts constant or RMS. If you want quality, or "premium, new car" sound system quality in your Beetle, you need an amplifier.

• CX360.4: 65 watts per channel RMS.
• CX660.5: 65 watts per channel to each speaker + 300 watts for a subwoofer
• 47KEY2004: 50 watts per channel RMS, plus a built in DSP & EQ.
• 47KEY2004 & 47KEY5001: Same as above, and a 500 watt mono subwoofer amplifier. We had our choice of Kicker's entire line of amplifiers when we put together our 1971 Super Beetle and these are the amps we chose. The sound quality is outstanding due to the built in Digital Sound Processor and Equalizer. The small size of the amps meant we could install both amps under the rear seat, opposite of the battery for a super clean and discrete installation.

Optionally, add a Subwoofer

Adding a subwoofer will fill out the bottom end to provide true, full-range sound. Don't think of a subwoofer like the kid at the stoplight that thinks he's cool. Think of it more like a home theater system, you can hear and feel the music for a more immersed music experience. All of the options we provide fit neatly behind the rear seat in the luggage tray.

• 10" Kicker Comp C Sealed Enclosure: This is a solid 10" subwoofer that gets the job done without being too boomy.
• 10" Kicker Comp RT Reflex Enclosure: A great option. In fact, we shoe-horned the 12" version of this box in our Super Beetle build.
• 10" Kicker Comp RT Down Firing Reflex Enclosure: If you want lots of bass, this is the way to go, hands down. This 10" sub performs like a pair of 12" subs and truth be told, if this was available when we did our 1971 Super Beetle, this would be the option we would have chosen.
