12 Volt Hard Start Relay Kit for Classic VWs

This VW hard start relay kit will help fix hard-start issues caused by old, worn out wiring. This kit includes a relay and wiring for installing the kit in your 12V system. The kit is engineered to withstand high temperatures and electrical components are securely assembled for dependable operation. See the images for the installation instructions.

Our Expert's Take:

This is a pretty simple one. This thing is no flash and all function. Air-cooled VWs never came with a starter relay, which means all the current from the battery has to pass through the ignition switch at the front of the car and then make it all the way back to the rear of the car before it hits the starter. It’s a long way for it to travel.

Hard start relays are named as such because they help eliminate hard starts associated with old wiring. When the wiring gets old and the contacts corrode, the battery struggles to provide enough juice to get the starter going. This relay gets battery power from the positive battery cable where it attaches to the starter, making a shorter path for the electricity to travel and more reliable starts.
