JBugs Engine Kit to Get Your Car Back on the Road

Carburetor

You have the choice to choose between a JBugs 34 PICT-3 carburetor or a 30PICT-1 carburetor. The difference is whether you have a single-port engine or a dual-port engine. Our JBugs carburetors work great and have the best vacuum of any carburetor we have tested for smooth acceleration and fuel delivery.

Distributor

When getting your car back on the road, you want to make sure that the engine electrical is operating correctly. A For the distributor, we offer several different options here:

• JBugs SVDA distributor - This is a vacauum advance style distributor that works perfect with either the 34 PICT-3 or 30 PICT-1 carburetor. The vacuum advance distributors accelerate smoother than the 009 or centrifugal advance distributors. This is the one we recommend and the ones we put in our own cars
• JBugs 009 style distrbutor with electronic ignition - This is an 009 style, centrifugal advance distributor and we include our electronic ignition module. The 009 style distrbutor is more "universal" per se, but with the stock carburetor in this kit we recommend, the SVDA, vacuum advance distributor.
• Standard tune-up kit for 009 Distributor - This option is if you have an existing 009 style distributor and includes a new cap, rotor, condenser and points
• Electronic ignition tune-up kit for 009 Distributor - This option is if you have an existing 009 distributor and includes an electronic ignition module, new cap, and a new rotor

All options include:

• 4 new Bosch W8RAC spark plugs
• 1 set of JBugs premium spark plug wires with OE style BakeLite connectors.

Coil

We recommend replacing the coil if you're getting your vehicle back on the road. All of these are 12V coils and will not work with 6V charging systems

• Bosch "Blue" coil with clamp - This is the OEM coil that VW used originally
• Beru silver coil with clamp - This is a 12V coil made in Germany and it comes with a coil clamp
• Beru blue coil - This is a blue coil that is similar to the silver coil, but it does not come with a clamp

Air Cleaner

If your air cleaner is old, gross, or non-existent, you can add a 5-1/2" round air cleaner that has a 3" tall gauze element. This is the most popular air cleaner we offer for stock style carburetors. The gauze element can be washed and sprayed with a hose if/when it gets dirty.

Intake Manifold

If you are replacing your carburetor, you may also want to inspect the intake manifold. An intake leak can ruin a perfectly good carburetor and ignition system due to improper air and fuel mixture.

• JBugs dual port intake manifold - This is the best intake manifold on the market and it does not require you to cut or trim the ends to fit like other do. It also has proper heat riser tubes that flow completely through for better manifold heating. It fits better. It works better. This includes new intake manifold boots, clamps, end castings, and end casting gaskets
• Intake manifold boots and gaskets - If your intake manifold is fine, but it just needs to be re-sealed, this option gives you new intake manifold boots, clamps, and the gaskets at the heads for the end castings

Fuel Pump

You may want to think about replacing your fuel pump if you are re-doing everything else. The fuel pump that is right for your vehicle depends on the length of the drive rod. The drive rod length typically depends on whether your vehicle has an alternator or a generator

• Alternator - 100mm or "short" drive rod
• Generator - 107mm or "long" drive rod

Other Things to Think About that Are Not Included

If you are "getting this thing back on the road," you could also consider adding an alternator conversion kit.
