The stock VW "Dished Cam" Camshaft comes with a 4 rivet standard drive gear and fits 1600cc Type 1 based engines, The Dished Cam isn't designed to be used in earlier model engines as there isn't a compatible oil pump. The dished cam style camshaft was used by VW in 1972 through 1977 Standard Beetles, 1972 through 1979 Super Beetles, 1972 through 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1972 through 1973 Type 3s and 1973 through 1974 Things.

The stock replacement cam has lobes with .332"/.310" of lift and 224/228 degrees of duration at 1.1:1. The cam lift is .210/.215" at .050" and the camshaft has 192/195 degrees of duration. The lobe centers are at 108 degrees and the cam can be use with 1.1:1 (stock VW), 1.25:1 or 1.4:1 rockers. New lifters should be installed whenever installing a new camshaft.

We recommend using an engine oil with ZDDP or ZDTP or a ZDDP/ZDTP additive in your oil for all flat tappet camshaft engines.
