If you're looking to replace or install the front and rear bumpers on your 1954 through 1967 Beetle and need all the parts, look no further. Our VW Front and Rear Triple Chrome Plated Over-Rider Bumper Kit comes with the Front and Rear, Upper and Lower Bumper Brackets, four pairs of Bumper Spacers, Upper and Lower Bumper Brackets and Seals as well as all of the hardware needed to bolt the bumpers to the brackets and the brackets to the cars. You provide a Beetle, we've covered everything else to install new bumpers on it!
Our Expert's Take:
We have seen high dollar chrome plated parts from local shops rust within a month. Make sure to keep the chrome waxed and clean, and it should last you for years, they have on our cars. When installing the bumpers, install all the parts loosely, then tighten the hardware. Depending on past damage to your car, bending, trimming and even drilling new holes in the bumper brackets might be required to install the bumpers.
Triple Chromed vs. Single Chromed
Which bumper is right for you?(This Bumper)
- Same metal thickness as single chrome bumpers
- Same stamping and design as single chrome bumpers
- Three layers of nickel plating
- More reflective and shinier than single chrome
- Chrome finish will last for years with occasional maintenance
- Great for quality restorations
- Same metal thickness as triple chrome bumpers
- Same stamping and design as triple chrome bumpers
- Single layer of nickel plating
- Less bright and reflective as triple chrome
- Expect chrome to pit over time even with maintenance
- Perfect for budget builds, patina, or if you plan to paint or powdercoat the bumper
Chrome Maintenance and What to Expect:
Chrome plating metal is an electro-plating process that is highly regulated due to the chemicals involved. Chrome products made today don't go through the same preparation & plating procedures they did 60 years ago. Many chemicals contained mercury and cyanide and have been banned for environmental reasons.
- We highly recommend maintaining any chrome on your vehicle by applying a car wax or detailing spray on a regular basis
- Consider coating the backside of your bumper with paint or a rust inhibitor.
- Triple chrome bumpers that are properly maintained and kept in dry, non-salty-air environments will last for years
- If you don't maintain the chrome and/or your vehicle is exposed to moisture and/or salt, there is a higher chance that you will see rusting and pitting.
- Single chrome bumpers are economically priced and more succeptible to rusting and pitting
