Our 1967 through 1973 Karmann Ghia Coupe or Convertible brake rebuild kit includes a new German master cylinder, German rear wheel cylinders, German front and rear brake hoses, rear brake shoes and rear brake hardware kit. For the front brakes, select between new front pads (single or dual pin) or add new complete brake calipers (with dual pin pads). You can also add new front brake rotors and rear drums to the kit. Whether you've just purchased a new project or simply want to make sure your VW's brake system is up to the task, our brake rebuild kit is the way to go to make sure you can stop when you want to!
Verify which caliper your Karmann Ghia has as the 1967 through early 1973 calipers all share the same 2 3/16" bolt spacing. We've seen cars with 2 different calipers (one early & one late model caliper) so the customer had to purchase 2 sets of brake pads! See the information below for more info on the calipers and pads.
Karmann Ghia Disc Brake Pad & Caliper Information
In 1967 the VW Karmann Ghia changed from the old 5x205mm patterned drum brake to the 4x130mm lug pattern and came standard with front disc brakes. The same brake caliper and pad was used through 1971, unfortunately we do not offer the brake calipers. Fortunately the 1972 to 1973 brake caliper is a direct bolt on replacement and uses the Two Pin Brake Pads.
The 1972 and early 1973 Karmann Ghia used the same disc brake calipers and pads that VW used on the 1966-1971 Type 3 models. The caliper and pad is also used in a number of our disc brake conversion kits.

D-101 - Two Pin Brake Pad Set
In mid 1973 VW Karmann Ghias came with a larger, "Gerling" disc brake caliper which used a larger, single pin brake pad. The larger caliper mounted to a redesigned spindle to accommodate the larger spindle. Again, unfortunately we do not offer the calipers or pads. If your late 1973 or 1974 Karmann Ghia has the Gerling caliper our recommendation is to swap the spindles, calipers and pads to the earlier style with our Disc Brake Conversion Kit which uses the more common 2 pin caliper set up.
Our Expert's Take:
If you just picked up a new VW or are getting an old project road road worthy again, don't take chances with an old, dried out and worn brake system. Start with all new brake components and be sure that you won't be adding any more body work to your VW's "To Do" list!
Brake components (like most things nowadays) are made around the world, by various manufacturers. A German brake component comes from a German manufacturing company that may have numerous factories around the globe. Regardless of where the part is made, if it is labeled as a German part, it comes from a German company that has manufactured that component at a facility that is owned by them, and it is made to their high standards of quality and fitment.
