The EMPI Super Kooler doghouse style oil cooler is a critical upgrade for managing oil temperature in VW air-cooled engines. Along with all of the upgrades over stock design, the later model Doghouse style oil cooler provides better airflow and heat dissipation versus the earlier upright cooler. Originally installed in late model Type 1 engines, it became standard equipment on various VW models starting in 1971.

The EMPI Super Kooler doghouse style oil cooler is designed to fit pancake Type 3 and late Type 2 models with a Type 4 engine. The Super Kooler has a 10x1.0mm oil pressure port just so it is a direct fit for Type 3s, late Type 2 and Porsche 914s.

This cooler can be retrofitted to all 1200cc (40HP) to 1600cc-based Type 1 engines using the later model components.
