Maximum Performance with Stock Peashooter Exits

One of the best performance exhausts for your classic VW. You get all of the performance from a stainless steel, side-exit merged exhaust, and it exits through the stock "pea shooter" cutouts in the apron so lowered cars don't have to worry about dragging a muffler pack on speed bumps, dips or driveways.

Mufflers are Better than Stingers!

Having a muffler on any street-driven VW Beetle makes driving your VW more enjoyable. Being able to talk to your passengers without having the annoying scream of a stinger is great. This JBugs Phantom exhaust delivers an aggressive, throaty tone without being loud and obnoxious like a stinger.

1-5/8" Header is Ideal for Engines Over 1914cc

The 1-5/8" header works great on engines over 1914cc and up to about 2332cc, putting out between 120-185hp. The "right size" header is a sliding scale depending on engine displacement and at what RPM range the engine is expected to work best at. Typically, the smaller the displacement, the higher the engine can rev. For instance, if you have a 2110 that you expect to rev over 7K RPM, a 1-5/8" header will be too restrictive and you are be better off with a 1-3/4" header. Generally, if you have a 1914cc or larger engine, you should probably use a 1-5/8" header. If your engine is smaller than 1914cc, the 1-1/2" header is the way to go.

V-band Clamp for Easier Valve Adjustments

With a side-exit header, and more specifically with tucked-away mufflers, you have to take the muffler off in order to adjust the valves. With a standard 3-bolt flange, that means you need to replace the exhaust gasket every 3,000 miles. With the V-band clamp on our Phantom exhaust, you don't need a new gasket every time you take the muffler off. The design of the clamp ensures a leak-free seal, allowing you to adjust the valves without worrying about needing a new gasket.

Our JBugs pea-shooter performance exhaust is manufactured in California, including the muffler canister and the 4-to-1 collector. The factory makes everything in-house. It might cost more, but it's manufactured here in America!

Polished Muffler & Exhaust Tips

The Phantom Exhaust tail pipes and mufflers are fully polished, stainless steel. The header isn't fully polished because it is tucked away and not visible, but the entire muffler and exhaust tips are fully polished. Stainless steel requires maintenance (polishing) to maintain a finish. The rest of the exhaust system is standard stainless, but if you want the stock look of bright, "chrome-looking" tailpipes and muffler, you will need to make sure to keep them clean and polish them once the exhaust is cooled off, of course.
