Hi guys, I’m Sam. And I’m Nate. And welcome to our garage. That Rockford Fosgate sign has been here longer than my car has been here. Yep. I figured now that it’s time to put a stereo in the car. We’d reach out to Rockford Fosgate and say, “Hey, would you guys mind sending us some stereo equipment?” And guess what they said? Yeah. So, we’ve got 12-in subwoofer, five channel amp, 6x9 rear deck speakers, 6 and 1/2 in front speakers, and now Nathan, you get to learn how to put all the stereo equipment in. Yeah, it’s one of the things I haven’t done on this car yet.
So, since our last video, which was the headliner, we did a lot of work. We filmed a lot of that same work. However, the audio was just absolutely horrible. I’m sorry. Even the headliner wasn’t that great. But with a major piece like the headliner for you especially. We got the interior fully hushmatted, like all of it. Like all of it. We’ve got the battery installed and strapped down to the floor finally so it’s not moving all around. We installed the rear carpet padding and we installed the rear carpet. Uh and then we did the final install on the rear seat. We’ve got three-point seat belts installed on the back seat because safety. Third, and it’s an off-road car, so you don’t want rear passengers bouncing around all over the place. Fair enough.
Now, we’ve got to test fit our rear speaker tray because there’s these things in the way that will stop that rear speaker tray from sitting in place there and there. So, we’re going to set that in place, get it marked up, cut out, notch out the corners for the roll cage itself. Uh, we’ll have to peel back the material and cut the board and then put the material back in place and get that upholstered looking pretty. Yeah. But since you did that center console, I kind of already know what to do. He’s done a little bit of upholstery work on his own. That center console you did 100% yourself. Yeah. Just off of a whim. One day I came home and that was installed. Okay. And he actually pseudo wood grained the dash panels to match. Yeah, that was pretty good trick, buddy. Thank you.
So, enough talking. We’re going to get working. Nathan has wisely cut out a template, cut it back. Still has hush mount material on it. Looks like right where we did it. I made some marks here. Squared them up. Straight lines there. Same thing over there. used our oscillating tool and we’re just going through and cutting that. We put a nice little radius on there because why not? Yeah. Well, I wonder if I can’t get it to pop from this side. Ha. And just go like so. Have to clean that up a little bit. Yeah. Well, guess what? That is much easier to clean up than it is to revinyl this entire thing because we cut too much. Yeah. It’s like a biscuit. Like biscuit layered biscuit. Yep. Just just like a layered biscuit, you know. That worked really well, Nathan. Yeah. Go test feet. Leave them up in the other side. I won’t even this side. Uh, I need to go further. So, we are going to cut some more back until it fits. Be back later. Attent number two. Yes, that’s better. Uh, I don’t know it’s going to get much better than that, actually. Yeah. Okay. Boom. We’re good. Perfect. Don’t need glue or anything. Just leave it there.
From our template, I added that much depth. 3/4 actually. So, 3/4 of an inch additional on top of that. Yep. All right. Um I don’t want to do this on the workbench. Nathan, you want to take that outside? Do some spray glues and whatnot. Let it up. Um I’m going to do some clean up on the shelf. Yeah, it’s probably helpful. You know, there’s really anything you can do.
All right, Nathan. Um pull that seat back down. could sleep back there if you’re a infant. We’ve got the rear seat carpet installed, rear seat crossbar, brace, Masonite, etc. But you know what would be really cool back there, Nathan? Uh 12-in subwoofer would be pretty cool back there, I think. I think you’re right. Let me grab one for you. Yeah. Oh, it fits right in between the roll cage. Pull that. Boom. And probably should put the seat belts in front so like people can actually ride back here like Shannon. There we go. Put some just back there. Nice. And now we have a 12-in subwoofer in the back of the Baja Bug. That looks pretty cool, doesn’t it? Yeah.
So, based on my past experience, pointing it towards the rear window actually should help with acoustics. So, having that and the interior of this thing all hush matted, it should uh produce a good amount of bass. Nathan approves. I’m Nate and I approve this message.
Which ones are which ones? Is the P. Oh, yeah. 69 equates to 6 by 9. You want to open up that? I do want to open up that. Yeah. No. All right, fine. Use that. I’m just fancy like that. I’d rather use that silver knife punch. Okay. Okay, guys. That’s the video. I want to punch that. I I don’t think that would be a good idea. It’s an oval, right, Dad? It’s a 6x9 ovap. It’s going to go right there somewhere. Somehow like that. Yeah. And this oval is going to go right there. Right where I just put the other one. That ought to work. Boom. Now we will cut our holes for those. 6x9 holes are fairly universal, so we should be pretty good. I think we should be good to go. Like that, right? Yep. Yep. Yep. Upside down so it goes off the um bounce off the subwoofer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let’s get ourselves a sharp knife. Oh yeah, KF. K. Let’s see how sharp this blade is. See if you want to use it on your knife. That is a knife at least. Not too close to the edges. They usually include some hardware in here. Okay, good. They did.
Well, look at those oval ones. Didn’t you have the one from um Mom’s Bug? I still do in my office separately. Yeah, it just goes anywhere you want. Really feel around with the screw to make certain we’re going to have a good amount of meat. Seems fair. That should work. Pre-drilled first. Yeah, we’ll drill it with this too, Dad. Point it towards the outside. Yeah, just a little bit of an angle. Yep. Yay.
So, now we’ve got Rockford Fosgate speakers. One and two. And give me air nozzle one more time. But we have to hook everything up though, Dad. Hold on. I need to take more pictures. Boom. of like the sub and just because he’s got to take pictures for his crayons. Now I just need a picture of that in there. And then we have to hook everything up still actually. Not too shabby. Would you look at that? Would you look at that? It is pretty cool, I think. Not too chabby. This ought to be the nicest Baja bug daily ever. I don’t know about that, but I mean, we just jumped it and now it has a full interior. Soon it’s going to have a full interior. I think that looks pretty darn sharp. It’s relatively secure. And it’s pretty soft, too, when you jump it. I know from firsthand experience.
Are you telling me this thing jumps nicely? Yeah. Nice. Nice enough to the point where the back tire gets tucked up. so far into the fender that it scrapes the mud off of it. Yeah. So, it’s self cleaning is what you’re saying. Yep. And self clearancing. After we jump enough times, we’re going to have to replace the forehead savers.
So, now we’ve got to figure out where to mount the amplifier. Nathan, right here. Probably where your shoes at. Yeah. Right there. Okay. Here. There. Right there. Right there.
So, here we have the R2 750X5. Apparently, there’s nothing to um open with the knife. it. Mhm. Where’s the fun in that? E, there’s um that stuff. Dad, hy low inputs, mounting screws, washers, doughut media, hy low speaker adapters, and Rockford Fosgate sends their amplifiers along with a birth certificate. This amplifier will actually put out 856 watts. So, that’s nice.
And Nathan, you have to figure out where to mount your base control knob. That sounds like a fun job. You can put a hole in your center console, put on that. Or I guess since I have it out right now, we can. Yeah. or you could mount it on the bottom side of the dash. So, we’re have to find out a cool place to mount that, unlike my 71 Super Beetle. Um, it was under the thing. I had neglected to run this cable when I did the carpet, sadly. So, I ended up mounting it in the rear kick panel, so I’d have to reach down behind the seat and up and down to adjust the base, which was not very fun when you’re driving. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We’re not going to make the same mistake in your car.
They have technology in these amplifiers. You can go through and adjust your gain settings, your crossover settings, etc. to make certain that you are actually getting a non-clipipped signal coming in and a non-clipipped signal going out, which just means that you’ll have a much better sounding stereo. So, a very cool technology that’s built right into these Wford Flade amplifiers. This is not a paid promotion. However, they did of course give us this amplifier and the speakers.
Now, we just need a self taper it straight to the chassis. That’s an option. We could do a riv nut. We can do riv nuts. You just want to do a riv nut into the floor or just selftapper? Just selftapper cuz we have all the hush mount already. Lord’s fastener. The Lord’s fastener it is.
Nathan, this little guy from our sister company-BT. This is going to be our input. Inputs to what? To our RCAs. What’s an RCA? Well, Nathan, that thing has a couple of wires on it. Okay, why don’t you look at the thing you’re trying to plug in? What do you see? Bluetooth. What wires, Nathan? Red and black. Okay. You think those are RCAs? I don’t know what an RCA is. Okay. Well, those are just wires, right? Yep. Probably not RCAs. What are the other ends? Uh, plugs. Those are RCAs.
Why don’t you look on the amplifier and see if there’s some place where you can put those? Sub, rear, front. front with this one and that one left, right? Is it left and right? White and red. This one’s red, so I’m guessing it goes on the red and the other one goes on the white. Yay, I did it.
Uh, this thing has a Ethernet plug. Uh, to the the only one that looks RLC. Wa. Speakers are weird. Rear line control. It’s cool. All the stuff at Veil that people do, it’s like confusing, which is why I’ve been trying to help out with them. Oh, have you? Yeah, I’ve been asking Eden if he could help me figure out what I do to take stuff down.
All right, we also need our amplifier wiring tool. Amper fire wire, four gauge amp installation kit, power and ground wires, signal cable, maxi fuse holder, 100 amp fuse, turnon lead, ring terminals, and hardware. And hardware. Woohoo! Now, this has two times more copper than the competition. Ain’t that fancy?
Ground. What the heck is that thing? fuse. Fuse power. One set of signal wires. Oh, look at all these giant thick zip ties. Two more of these. Two more. But we’ll get some of those tomorrow. All these go inside, including this. Yep.
What those three terminals say? G&D, REM, and B+. Okay. So, G&D is ground. Ground. Okay. Yeah. REM remote. That’s that blue wire. Check that 13 up there for our ground. Mhm. We’ll loop him down and into there. That’s a big ground. Let’s figure out how we want to route it. Do you want to go like from here down to there around like that? Yeah. I think that’s going to be our cleanest option.
And that’s a 16in bolt, right? That’s a 13 there. That bolt. That’s a 13. Oh my goodness, my eyes. What’s wrong with your eyes? It’s a Volkswagen, Nathan. It’s always Everything’s 13. Just always guess 13. Chances are you’ll be right. Okay. Always. Chances are. Sounds good.
Right. That blue wire is going to run along this this side over here. It’s a lot of wire. The gay wires we’re going to run along the opposite side over there. So, basically this fourth ft to the left. Main thing is is we don’t want our signals getting messed up with our powers. Yeah. That’s why we do. I’m sure you’ve done this before, so I’m assuming you’re correct.
So, we will take that. And we also need the ground from our ground. Yes, ground. We need the ground from that. Yes. And that will go in there. That’s too much screw all the way. All the way. I just did and I screwed it back in because I thought we weren’t doing it. Then I guess we are doing it. There we go. Good enough. Now screw it back in. Just It’s just going to get even more ground, you know. It’s fine. Yeah. Extra ground.
Now we need to strip the end of this guy and this guy and our red guy from our CCSBT. Ah, I’m stuck to the car, Dad. So, we’ll take our blue remote wire and the red and the red hot wire for our CCCSBT. Probably loosen it first. There you go. All right. Tighten her down.
Yeah. The B positive battery positive. That is our big red wire. We’re going to have a lot of leftover. It’s like right next to it, huh? Because we ain’t got to go very far. Positive power. Oh, yeah. There’s no reflection in the glass. Um, now there uh Yeah, right there’s good. No reflection. Nope. All right. Boom. Fuse holder.
All right. So, that gives our amplifier power, ground, and a remote turn on capabilities. Once we wire it up to the front, preemptively run some RCAs. Run those along the passenger side of our car. I’ll do these to our subwoofer. Those will run across there and those will run up there and these will go up to a head unit whenever we put a head unit in. But we are going to plan ahead for our head unit.
So Nathan, we’ve got majority of our amp connections at our amplifier done. We need some more RCA cables and some speaker wiring. Yeah. And once that’s done, we can run all the speaker wires to their respective speakers, subwoofer, front kick panels, and rear deck speakers. We can can make all those connections at the front of the car. That’s just our remote turn-on lead to turn on the amplifier. And then once we do that and connect our Bluetooth device to our Bluetooth receiver and hook up speakers, we can listen to music in here. Yeah, we can listen to music in here right now. Yeah, but it wouldn’t be on the stereo system.
I will bring that stuff home tomorrow. We will do maybe a little bit of work tomorrow. Maybe for our subwoofer on our rear deck speakers and maybe we’ll run a wire to the front so we can at least test it real quick. But then I have Bible study. Wednesday night, you’ve got home group. We can do a little bit of work before home group. And then Thursday we can really get back to work on this doing the front kick panels and some more wiring. Yeah.
So we will see you guys then. I’m back to work for a little bit and then Nathan is actually in guitar lessons, a makeup lesson today and then he has a lesson tomorrow. But I’m going to get some stuff started for him to work on and then he’s going to take over here in a little bit.
But for now, I’ve got the rear kick panels in place temporarily just so I can route all of our wires. We got our base control knob, our remote turnon wire, RCA cables run here. I got the roll cage loosened up. I’m going to run this RCA along with two more pairs of RCAs from our sister company, Classic Car Stereos, so that we can when we actually do put a head unit in here, we’ll have front channel, rear channel, and subwoofer RCAs. So, I’m going to get that preemptively run, and then I’m going to direct Nathan.
All right, Nathan is done with guitar lessons for today. Yeah. Makeup from last week. Yeah. And then you have guitar lessons tomorrow as well. Yeah. I’m about ready to head out. Nathan’s going to take over from here. Cut off about a quarter inch. Cut an inch. Quarter inch. Quarter inch.
This is just one long length of wire. We want to run the wires from here down this way to this corner. Okay. You can do that speaker that way, this speaker this way, and then that. And then we can throw that in the back. And then we can wire up the subwoofer, too. Uh, which is just going to be Yay. Positive to positive, negative to negative. That’s easy enough. Actually, you can do that kind of like right now. Yep. There you go. Quarter inch.
And on those, since it’s going in the subwoofer box, you can do about a/ inch. Just a little bit more. Yep. All right. Same amount on the other side. All right. And then we can go throw those in the subwoofer box.
Nathan’s got the subwoofer hooked up. So, this wire will run down here and we’ll be able to hook up to our amplifier underneath the rear seat there. Easy enough. And that just hooks up to the amplifier. Yep. Subwoofer channels.
But yeah, notice I have the rear kick panels in there now, Nathan. Yeah, I do. Yeah, I noticed that. But that’s just what are those for heater? Heater that we don’t have. So you can cut this wire. I would route it down along here. Kind of make it nice and pretty like maybe. And that’s going to go to our sub channel. So neighborhood basically and positive, negative, positive, negative. Hook that up there. Yep. Positive, negative. Yep.
That seems actually really easy. I thought this stuff was complicated, Dad. It’s not complicated. It’s just a lot involved. A whole bunch of different wires. Yeah. And if I hadn’t told you, I probably wouldn’t have been able to figure it out anyways. But yeah. Yeah, you’re smart.
All right, we’re going to get to that and then we’ll be back later and then I’m going to probably head off in a few minutes. So, you need to do the rest of the speakers. If you can, you can set that back in there and then run those wires back down to here following this wire the way we get this thing in. And that’s going to go into our rear speakers. Left channel, right channel. Yep. So, you also need to go through and make sure you get left and right. I’ll like mark them outside the car. Silver for the wee little guy.
Nice and secure. Nice and secure. Yep. Boink. And as long as they’re tight. Really, Dad? You know what? How you fix that? We’re being strong.
Yeah. We have hooked up all the wires to the left and right speakers and stapled all the wires so they don’t flop around everywhere. And we wrote R and L for right and left so we don’t hook them up backwards. You got the rest? Hopefully. Yeah. All right. I will maybe see you guys when I get back. And Nathan’s going to take it from here.
There’s a lot of acoustics in this car. Are there acoustical devices now, too? Um, yeah, that thing and like those things and like thing behind this. Well, I see a lights under there. So, yeah, we’ve got some power. Whole 100 amps of fuse. You only have one amp, Nathan. Gosh dang it. This is for 100 amps. We need to put a 1 amp fuse in it. Either that or we need 99 more amps. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
There we go. I wired up everything to the front of the car. Nathan did all that wiring. I don’t think I showed this earlier. So, Nathan ended up actually putting the remote base knob into one of our fresh air hole blockoff plugs. That worked out really well. Nathan ran all the RCA cables along that side up there. And I had to drill a hole and put another grommet in. So, we got all these RCAs here. Let me do put a head unit in. I can’t wait. Well, you’re gonna have to.
So, we’ll be able to put in our head unit here. Hook up all of our RCAs to that head unit. Nathan’s got our remote control knob there. We’ve got temporary power plugged into our remote turn on so we can listen to the stereo. Nathan, you want to put on some music? Yeah. Yeah.
Hold me close till I get up. From the base chase leading us and love is all we’ll ever trust. No, I don’t want to waste what’s left. And we go.
That is pretty good, especially for just the rear speakers. Two 6x9’s and the 12in sub and sounds really, really good. Yeah, I’m uh I’m jazzed with that, dude. How about you? Yeah, that’s going to wrap it up for tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll get to working on the speaker kick panels and getting those front speakers hooked up and we’ll be back then. Yeah. Later, guys.

5-Star Rating!
