1985-1990 VW Vanagon & 1986-1990 Syncro Bosch VW Distributor Cap

The Bosch Distributor Cap clips to the top of the distributor and has 5 posts for the coil and 4 spark plug wires. The 5 wire posts have an internal stud so compatible spark plug wires must be used. The distributor cap can be used on various VW Vanagon (and other water-cooled VW) models from 1985 through 1990. For 1986-91 Vanagon models, VW transitioned to a distributor cap with an intergrated ground shield, rather than a separate metal shield and a ground wire. If your Vanagon has the later style distributor cap with the black plastic sleeve, you would use the 03214 cap. If your cap does not have the shield, and has studs inside the plug wire posts, this is the distributor cap needed. 1983-85 Vanagons would have originally used the 03010 cap which does not have studs inside the cups, but it could have been swapped. So, look inside one of the spark plug holes in your cap. If there are studs, this is the cap you need, if not use the 03010 cap.
