Classic VW Steering Box for Bug, Karmann Ghiam and Type III

100% New. This is not a rebuilt box
24mm "Small" output shaft (1962 and later models)
Will fit 1961 and earlier models (Later style pitman arm must be used)
Pre-filled with grease/oil

This 100% new, stock replacement steering box is a direct replacement unit for 1962 through 1977 Standard Beetles, 1962 through 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1962 through 1973 Type 3s and 1973 through 1974 Things. The replacement steering box is a 24mm, "small shaft" unit and will fit the 1962 and later pitman arms including the 1962-1968 replacement pitman arm and the and 1968-1977 replacment pitman arm. If you have a 1961 and earlier model Beetle or Ghia you can use the 1962 to 1968 pitman arm to install this box in place of the early style large shaft steering box. For reference, the input shaft size is 16mm/62 spline.

Our Expert's Take:

If your steering is vague, all other components (tie rod ends, ball joints or king & link pins, wheel bearings, etc) are all in good shape, and the worm gear has been adjusted properly, it is time to replace your steering box. We've used these replacement steering boxes for nearly 20 years and are happy to have them available. Don't forget to replace the steering coupler disc while you've got everything apart.
