The factory replacement original style 1974 Thing muffler is currently out of production so there is a limited amount of availability. We recommend calling to check the current stock. 

1974 Things came with a Beetle style muffler as they had the Beetle heater boxes. The Thing muffler has tail pipes that exit the side of the muffer and exit through the cut outs in the stock rear bumper. The exhaust system is made in Europe and comes painted with a grey primer that will burn off in time. 

The exhaust system requires the standard Beetle style muffler installation kit  (111298009F - see below) which is sold separately.


To install this muffler you willneed a muffler install kit. This installation kit is sold separately.

Exhaust components (like most things nowadays) are made around the world, by various manufacturers. A German exhaust component comes from a German manufacturing company that may have numerous factories around the globe. Regardless of where the part is made, if it is labeled as a German part, it comes from a German company that has manufactured that component at a facility that is owned by them, and it is made to their high standards of quality and fitment.

Grey Primer is only a rust inhibitor!

If the grey primer is not removed before installation, it will burn off in a few hours. We recommend stripping the muffler with a good solvent or sanding the paint off and then painting the muffler with a high quality, High-Temperature Exhaust Paint. None of our exhaust systems are warrantied against rust.
