KYB Excel-G Shock Absorber for Air-Cooled VW Models

The KYB Excel-G (formerly GR-2) Shock absorber fits the front of 1954 to 1965 Beetles, 1956 to 1965 Karmann Ghias, 1955 to 1979 Type 2 Bus models and 1962 to 1973 Type 3s. It also fits the rear of 1954 to 1977 Standard Beetles, 1971 to 1979 Super Beetles, 1956 to 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1955 to 1967 Type 2 Bus models, and 1962 to 1973 Type 3s. The twin tubed nitrogen charged shock has an overall length of 16.46", the compressed length is 10.35" and the shock has a stroke length of 6.1". EMPI # 97-1009

Installation Notes

• The eyelets at the upper and lower ends of the shock have a 12mm (just under 1/2") inner diameter sleeve.
• The mount on the trailing arm should measure approximately 11.9mm (just over 7/16").
• If the lower mount hole is "too small," the old shock sleeve may have rusted in place and must be removed using tools such as vice grips, heat, a chisel, or a cut-off wheel.
