This dog house fan shround will fit 1300-1600cc, Type 1 based aircooled VW engines. It comes with a painted black finish and comes without the heater duct connections. This fan shround features 9 internal, air directional baffles to ensure proper airflow over the engine. With an air-cooled Vokswagen engine, the fan-shround is critical to prevent overheating. With a "Doghouse Style" shroud, the oil cooler sits behind the shroud and is offset from the fan in it's own compartment, the "doghouse". The fan pulls in air while the shroud creates a channeling effect to disperse it towards the oil cooler, cylinder heads, pistons & cylinders. If you are eliminating heater boxes and opting to install J-tubes this fan shroud eliminates the air ducts for a smoother, cleaner look.
Doghouse fan shrouds use a wider, 36mm fan (P/N 113119031B) to push more air through the shroud than earlier models. Make sure to use the appropriate sized fan to maximize the cooling benefits of the doghouse shroud.
NOTE: This fan shroud is made for 1300-1600cc Type 1 based aircooled engines. This is a "36 horse power" style fan shround and it refers to the style and shape of the fan shroud. This is an aftermarket made piece it may require some massaging to fit perfectly. This is the case with all aftermarket fan shrouds, period. If you want a factory fit, you must use the original factory pieces.
Aftermarket fan shrouds may have a gap at either side at the cylinder shrouds. The EMPI Aluminum Shroud Spacer Kit can be installed to ensure a tight fit for proper cooling.
